About the Book
As the field of social work celebrates its centennial anniversary this year, one of today's well-known practitioners pays tribute to this milestone. Paradigms of Clinical Social Work, Volume 2 epitomizes the social work tradition of being open to new ways of helping clients, incorporating innovative information from other disciplines, and questioning our personal and professional world views and epistemologies. In the first part of this new volume, readers are introduced to the compelling story of a real family. Once their case is presented, the editor invites each of the contributors to use their particular theoretical approaches as a device to enable the reader to compare theories, techniques, and philosophies inherent in each paradigm. The second part of the book consists of seven models which range from Milton Erickson to postmodern practices. Finally, the book introduces the reader to four metaparadigms which have a higher level of complexity and or abstraction than the models in the previous parts of the book.
The purpose of Paradigms of Clinical Social Work, Volume II is to fully understand these paradigms and raise as many questions as it does answers on the brink of the next century. It is the editor's wish that future generations can look forward to the thought, debate and research that will be the foundation for theory building and effective clinical social work.
